Blackout In A Can

It's a new drink that would make poor John Belushi proud. It's a speedball that you can buy from the corner grocery. It's called Four Loko. Otherwise known as BLACKOUT IN A CAN.

Combine about 4 beers worth of alcohol with the caffeine equivalent of a 12 oz. coffee, jazz it up with some snazzy fruit flavor, and go loco. Then remember nothing in the morning.

The real news here in my opinion are the socio-economic overtones at play. Market tops are stimulating. Market bottoms are depressing. Market tops create bubble gum pop music like Hanson and the Starbucks craze. Market bottoms are about bong hits and Pink Floyd.

Gradually we seem to be crossing the halfway point down as the collective psyche shifts darker. It's as if people are saying "I'm tired of this reality, so give me a boost, but I don't want to be so amped up anymore, so bring me down too."

The BLACKOUT nickname is striking to me as well. It sounds like it's saying "get me out of here; I don't want to remember anything." So much for the eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. The storm clouds are gathering.
